A MESSAGE OF PEACE TO NORTH AND SOUTH
KOREA
On Sunday, May 4th, 37 American men and
women spelled out a message for worldwide harmony by forming the word
PEACE in the Korean language with their bodies. It happened as part of
the 11th May Day Festival at Stafford Lake, near Novato, California.
Baring Witness, the organization that has inspired Peace spellings
worldwide, was represented and organized by 73-year-old Donna Sheehan,
its founder.
In deference to Korean sensibilities,
the participants were not naked, as is normal for a Baring Witness
action, but clothed in red, for maximum visual impact against the
green hill on which they lay.
"We want to send a strong message that
most Americans want peaceful solutions to international disagreements,
as we know the citizens of North and South Korea do," Sheehan said.
She hopes this spelling of words of
peace in other languages who now fear the United States, will spread
worldwide.
"America has made so many enemies
recently, we hope this will begin the healing and will encourage
people from other countries to reciprocate. Government does not
represent the opinions of all the people, in any country."
